  1. The sixth volume in the saga of Haruhi Suzumiya turns out to be yet another short story collection, this one focusing on events from November through January.Live A Live is essentially an epilogue to the second book, picking up exactly where Sigh left off It s the day of the Cultural Festival and Kyon has just delivered the final cut of The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00 to the film club Not having any breasts, he s not part of Haruhi s marketing strategy for the movie, and his class on [...]

  2. Collection of short stories and novella length pieces, The Live A Live story really worksbetter in the anime, because you get to actually see the band preform view spoiler Favorite story is Charmed at First Sight because it is a Nagoto story, loved the resolution of why the boy fell in love with Yuki at first sight. The final story The Melancholy of Asahina Mikuru ends on a dark note with further hints that there are indeed dangerous enemies of the SOS hide spoiler

  6. Original review posted on my livejournal account Why I Read It I fell in love with the anime series these books inspired, so I decided last year in April that I wanted to read the source material I ve read the previous five books, and while this hasn t been my favourite series ever, I m interested enough to keep reading. For this review I ll be going over each short story and giving general thoughts and impressions with no spoilers.First up, we have Live Alive This story was actually adapted into [...]

  7. After a few very strong storylines in the Haruhi Series e.g Disappearance, Endless Eight, Snowy Mountain Syndrome we re back to the small, self contained, inconsequential short stories with Wavering This isn t necessarily a terrible thing Unfortunately the novel starts off with the weakest short story yet Live A Live , which somehow expands what could have been two paragraphs of Sigh into about twenty five pages For context, everything covered in this story is shown in the anime in two one minut [...]

  8. Actual Rating 2.5 StarsWow I didn t realize it took me a little over a month to finish this short book I guess I just wasn t really getting into it or I just found other books enticing The Wavering of Haruhi Suzumiya is a short story collection of random moments in the lives of our S.O.S Brigade, and admittedly, it wasn t the best collection ever In fact, I think I had set it aside for so long because the first three short stories were kind of boring There were still little elements of anticipa [...]

  9. The sixth book in the Haruhi Suzumiya series is composed of five short stories that take place during the summer break of the characters first year at high school. The opening story, Live Alive is a prologue to the volume and sets up the School Cultural Festival that serves as a backdrop for Suzumiya s crazy schemes Then follows The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00 is the narrative of the amateur film the SOS Brigade shot for the aforementioned festival fun and snarky, Kyon consistently t [...]

  10. Another solid edition to the Haruhi universe This is another collection of short stories that fill in of the gaps between the longer novel ones I m always impressed by Nagaru Tanigawa s ability to squeeze in adventures He also does a good job of referring to stories that happened chronologically earlier and setting up those that happen in the future.Of all of the short stories in this book, I think that The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina is the most interesting since it seems to be setting up for [...]

  11. I really like each of the stories in this collection, but I did wish the overall story had progressed at all This book collects stories to fill in the gaps from the previous books I especially enjoyed Love at First Sight and its bittersweet ending, and The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina since it gives some context as to Mikuru s fears and doubts and raises some questions as to the trustworthiness of a major character that we may not have thought to question Questions that will be asked explicitly [...]

  12. This time we get to explore previous unexplored aspects of previous events in the light novel series The stories are well written and offer insight into both the characters and the lore even though there really is no character development in this entry which is ultimately the biggest flaw here The stories are still a lot of fun in spite of lack the character development and I m interested to see where the subsequent entries take the story of the S.O.S Brigade

  13. The 6th book in the Haruhi Suzumiya series diverges from the other books slightly Instead of one cohesive plot, this book is split up into a couple short stories Overall, I enjoyed this book as much as the others in the series I would recommend this book to people who have read the pervious books or are looking for content after the conclusion of the TV show.

  15. This collection of short stories serves to wrap up small details that weren t able to fit within the main story I really do appreciate the author s attention to detail and all of the effort that was put into making them fit within the canon.

  16. 4.7 out of five starsAlmost perfect, except for the story Where Did the Cat Go That one was a little boring and felt like a knockoff of Remote Island Syndrome The illustrations by Noizi Ito are beautiful Nothing to say Recommended but I would say skip the cat story

  17. Better than the last I tend to like the stories which focus on the characters other than Haruhi, or ones that actually dig into Haruhi s mind , because she often seems so one sided.

  18. It was very confusing always left you hanging but, in a good way The pictures in the back of the book were very nice and pretty.
